The 6th Huawei ICT Competition - Macau Station concluded with flying colours to groom local ICT talent and propel Macau’s future with innovation and technology
(Macau，11 Dec 2021) The 6th Huawei ICT Competition - Macau Station was successfully concluded today. An awards ceremony was held today at the Macao Science Center to recognise students’ efforts in turning their ideas into fruition over the past few months. Heavyweight guests, including Li Yingjie Jackie, General Manager of Huawei Enterprise BG – Macau; Pan Sio, Director-General of The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau and Shuen Ka Hung, Director-General of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, shared their insights on nurturing talent and how innovation and technology is driving the development of different industries. With the rapid development in information technology, there are tremendous opportunities for growth and development in industries like finance, communications, education, and medical care. The competition also brings a new generation of high calibre to light while injecting new impetus into the development of Macau’s ICT industry.
Huawei ICT Competition is an annual ICT contest for global university students, organised by Huawei through connecting government organisations, higher education institutions, institutions of higher learning, training institutions, and enterprises. The competition has been providing students with an international exchange platform to enhance their ICT knowledge, practical abilities, and applied skills, and to embrace an innovative mindset since its inception in 2015. This year’s 6th Huawei ICT Competition – Macau station is jointly organised by Huawei Macau, The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, from September to December 2021 with two tracks – Network and Cloud. A total of 5 universities with 475 students participated in the Macau Station, which showcased students’ passion and high emphasis on technological development. After rounds of fierce competition, a total of 72 students entered the final today and competed for multiple awards.
In addition to The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, the competition is also co-organised by the University of Macau, the City University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and Macao Polytechnic Institute, supported by Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao SAR Government. With the support and collaborative efforts of different parties, the competition further drives the development of talent and innovation and technology.
During the awards ceremony, Huawei invited several government officials, industry leaders and professionals to present the awards, including Tai Kin Ip, Director of Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Macao SAR Government; Pan Sio, Director-General of The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau; Shuen Kahung, Director-General of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center; Lai Iok In, Head of Information and Technology Division, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao SAR Government; Joe Tou, Technical Superior Assessor Principal of The Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Macao SAR Government; Ng Cheng U Chloe, Technical Superior of Talents Development Committee, Macao SAR Government, Wan Kam Meng, Chairman of Macao Computer Society, together with Li Yingjie, General Manager of Huawei Enterprise BG – Macau and Quincy Li, Ecosystem Director of Huawei Enterprise BG – Macau.
After rounds of assessments, Deng Changxing, Chen Xiaohong and Hoi Iocheong have won the first prize of the Cloud Track, with Ma Shaodan as the tutor. Wan Chang, Liu Zhuoyang and Wu Shanshan have won the second prize of the Cloud Track, with Gong Zhiguo as the tutor. Li Zongni, Sha Jun and Lyu Mingmei have won the third prize of the Cloud Track, with Benjamin Ng Koonkei as the tutor.
For the Network track, Wen Yuqiang, Yao Yu and Zhang Boliang have won the first prize, with Jacky Tang Sukit as the tutor. Kang Yuwei, Shen Kehua and Li Tianshu have won the second prize, with Cheang Chak Fong as the tutor. Jin Yuxin, Ma Chenxiao and Liu Yunzhi have won the third prize, with Ying Zuobin as the tutor. The first prize of Cloud track and the first prize and second prize of Network Track can advance to APAC regional competition, compete with other elite students within the region.
Li Yingjie Jackie, General Manager of Huawei Enterprise BG – Macau, delivered his welcome speech and said “Digitalised and innovative technologies and applications are becoming one of the motivations for social and economic growth.
Among them, ICT takes an important role in promoting industry development, with talent being the key to success. In terms of nurturing ICT talent, Huawei is an enabler, contributing to the industry with its rich and vast experiences, technology know-how and management skills developed over years. We also work with different organisations, education institutions and business partners to build an open, cooperative and mutually-beneficial ecosystem.”
“Huawei is also committed to achieving integration of production and education, proactively devoting in partnerships between schools and enterprises, assisting colleagues for digital transformation, meanwhile developing high-quality talent pipeline to explore more ICT talent,” Li added.
Pan Sio, Director-General of The Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau joined the ceremony and said “We are committed to promoting technology development and talent cultivation. We encourage academic and scientific knowledge exchanges, promote education and training, and enhance the development of scientific culture. At the same time, we promote international technology trends and enhance the level of professionalism. We believe the market and professional demands are inseparable from the cultivation of talent. Today’s competition is one of the treasurable opportunities to create a better scientific atmosphere for students to learn and improve. We hope the students can contribute to Macau and our country in the future.”
Shuen Kahung, Director-General of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center also shared their experience in nurturing technology talent and said “We inspire Macau youngsters to develop interests in information technology. Starting from learning, we encourage students to raise their interests and skills via competition. Other than our competitions, we also encourage students to participate in various well-known international contests to explore and learn, gain more experience and develop long-term goals, so as to work harder to influence other students and achieve higher standards.”
Huawei will be collaborating with universities in Macau, supporting them to go through digital transformation via the provision of leading information technology. Huawei also aims to promote high-quality development for colleges and the cultivation of ICT talent via integrating production and education and cooperation with colleges.
