Hong Kong Baptist University signs MoU with Huawei for artificial intelligence strategic collaboration and talents cultivation

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei to embark on a joint collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) research, aiming to nurture local innovation talents and build a sustainable ecosystem for the industry.

The MoU was signed in December 2020 by Professor Roland Chin, the then President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, and Dr. Matthew Leung, the Director of Huawei Hong Kong R&D Center. Strategic research collaboration will be focused on artificial intelligence, information technology, communication technology, new materials, energy, etc. Both parties also expect to establish Joint Laboratory “HKBU-Huawei Joint Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence” in the near future.

“Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology infrastructure and smart devices. Through this industry-academia collaboration, I am confident that we will bring about impactful interdisciplinary research and nurture innovative AI talent for the blossoming industry,” said Professor Guo Yike, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU.
