Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education and artificial intelligence (AI) applications have become a priority in education. Buddhist Mau Fung Memorial College, located in Tin Shui Wai, has partnered with Huawei Hong Kong (hereinafter referred to as Huawei) to become the first Technology Collaboration School in Hong Kong. The school has established a STEAM Innovation Center, known as the Dream Lab, to promote students' learning in IT and AI. All 37 classrooms are equipped with Huawei's IdeaHub interactive whiteboards and a fully wireless intelligent innovation system, creating Boundless Classrooms that enable interactive teaching across classrooms and regions. This encourages students to be innovative and creative, and extends the classroom to remote learners, helping them realize their dreams in science and technology.
The rapid development of ICTs provides a strong foundation for STEAM education. Buddhist Mau Fung Memorial College has established the Dream Lab, a STEAM Innovation Center, to promote students' learning in IT, AI, and programming. Since 2024, the college has partnered with Huawei to build the first Technology Collaboration School in Hong Kong. Mr. Liu Man Lee, principal of the college, said, "Through the innovative technologies and equipment provided by Huawei, we can further support the development of STEAM education, allowing students to access the latest technologies, and enabling the college to leverage national resources to advance education in science and technology."
All 37 classrooms in the school have introduced Huawei's interactive touchscreens and whiteboards, bringing traditional classrooms into the digital world and addressing issues such as slow response and insufficient brightness of traditional projection devices. This enhances the interactive teaching experience for both teachers and students, creating the next-generation digital classrooms. Principal Liu noted, "While promoting digital education that aligns with current technological trends, we also seek innovative devices that support technological development and offer cost-effectiveness. Huawei's IdeaHub is a crucial element that inspired us to pioneer the 'Boundless Classroom' and develop innovative interactive teaching methods."
Principal Liu explained that the Boundless Classroom stems from the concept of borderless teaching, aiming to promote interactive teaching across classrooms. Teachers can project their board writing, teaching data, and images to other classrooms. In addition, teachers can record their class content, so that students can continue learning offline and take notes. This will make teaching efficient and interactive across the school. "Today, we can connect with schools in Hong Kong, and tomorrow, we can have classes with schools in other countries. This is the ultimate goal of the Boundless Classroom."
In recent years, the online/offline hybrid teaching model has become a trend. Mr. Leong Ho Yiu, Chairperson of the English Panel, stated that "Compared with traditional blackboards, the school can now link multiple teaching environments into one or more large interactive classroom through IdeaHub, making the teaching model more diverse and improving efficiency." In addition, students can use the 4K touchscreen to write and interact with each other in real time, and use Huawei tablets or mobile phones to wirelessly project images, making learning more interesting and flexible.
Network speed and security play important roles in meeting teaching requirements. The school uses Huawei's high-performance Wi-Fi network and cloud services, together with computers, mobile terminals, and mobile charging devices, to ensure smooth and stable online classes and improve the mobile learning experience. Mr. Liu Sui Kin, the Digital Education Coordinator of the college, said, "Teachers can live stream classes, and students can attend classes through mobile phones or tablets. Teaching materials and notes are automatically synchronized and stored in the cloud, which allows students to review the materials after class, facilitates teachers' class preparation, and ultimately improves students' learning efficiency."
In terms of data security and system management, Huawei also provides operations and management training for the college, helping teachers quickly get familiar with involved devices. In addition, the college can remotely monitor devices and update the system, ensuring data security and intelligent management, and reducing the workload of the IT department.
