Oct 24, 2019

[Salt, Jordan, October 24, 2019] Together with Huawei, Al Balqa’ Applied University(BAU) has officially launched the country’s first Huawei ICT Academy in the university campus in Salt city, with the presence of H.E Mr. Pan Weifang, the Ambassador of Chinese Embassy. Targeting to training more than 500 students per year in the latest technology such as Cloud Computing and AI, the both parties are also planning to make the Academy into the regional training center in the future.

Under the umbrella of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) Huawei signed with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship earlier this year during the World Economic Forum, Huawei has committed to establishing three Huawei ICT Academy programs with Jordanian universities. The move is part of an ongoing commitment to contribute to the local talent ecosystem while bridging the knowledge gap between academic theory and the business world.

Following the MOU signed in April, there has been productive cooperation between BAU and Huawei, including the BAU management visiting Huawei’s global headquarters in Shenzhen, China. Since that time, Huawei experts and BAU instructors have exchanged notes on curriculum development and conducted on-site training delivered by Huawei experts for over a month—during which time more than 20 instructors from BAU were provided up-to-date technologies and 16 becoming qualified as Huawei Certified Academy Instructors.

As part of its relationship with BAU, Huawei also provides two fully-equipped labs for the new Academy—a Routing & Switching Lab and an AI & Cloud Computing Lab—as well as various other training materials.

Mr. Pan Weifang, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China, stated: "We are proud to see Huawei making such an impactful contribution to the local community, especially in terms of supporting Jordan’s digital economy.”
