Barcelona, Spain, February 26, 2014 –Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, presented their vision of an open, cloud-based communications network at a seminar held in conjunction with Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. Seminar attendees learned how to bring advancements in cloud technologies into communication networks to increase resource sharing and efficiency. Highlighting the possibilities of this transformation, Huawei and Telefónica signed an MOU on advancing the UNICA infrastructure architecture, Software-defined Networking (SDN), and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). This strategic cooperation will provide a foundation for Telefonica’s network transformation and become an example for the industry.
Eric Xu, Rotating CEO of Huawei, emphasized that "Just like IP technologies did before, cloud computing is changing the landscape of telecom. We can see that the future network infrastructure will be data center-centric, software defined, virtualized, open cloud-based and ICT-converged. Cloud OS will play a key role in this network transformation. Huawei FusionSphere enables an open, high-performance and low-latency ICT infrastructure with the partnership of the whole industry, being the first choice of NFV and cloud data center."
During the event, prominent analysts and industry-leading carriers provided insight and advice. Jonathan Bryce, Executive Director of the OpenStack Foundation, spoke about the strategic importance and inherent advantages for carriers to provide cloud-based services. He emphasized Huawei’s contributions to the OpenStack community, both in code and promotion to the Telecom industry. An open and flexible cloud platform like OpenStack can help carriers minimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) and meet requirements for scale.
FusionSphere, the core of Huawei's cloud computing strategy, has been deployed in over 40 countries, providing a platform for both telecom and enterprise applications. Huawei is a gold member of the OpenStack Foundation and, in addition to actively contributing to the development of this acclaimed framework, has also incorporated FusionSphere with OpenStack. This combination addresses the pressing requirements of telecom networks to deliver high performance and stability, provide real-time and secure service assurance, and ensure simple and efficient operations. In addition, FusionSphere implements high-performance distributed storage, SDN, and large-scale dynamic resource scheduling, which significantly reduces operating expenses (OPEX) and reduces the time needed to introduce new services.
Using Huawei FusionSphere, telecom carriers can smoothly migrate their IT services and telecom services to the cloud and improve their core competitiveness by providing cloud-based services for their users.
