Chengdu, China, November 20, 2013 - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, hosted its first Global Power Industry ICT Summit in Chengdu, China. Themed, "Innovative ICT Infrastructure for Smart Grids", the event provided a platform for over 200 power companies, research institutions and 400 power industry experts from different parts of the world to take part in in-depth discussions with Huawei. Talks centered around the construction and implementation of agile and efficient ICT solutions that can help power companies achieve intelligent operations and improve overall productivity.
"With the development of smart grids, the power industry is entering a new era, where new opportunities have emerged with the evolution of ICT. Through innovative ICT solutions like cloud-based big data platform, smart backbone network and mobile collaboration platform, power companies will be able to significantly enhance operational efficiency," said Mr. Dabing He, President of the Global Solution Sales Department, Huawei Enterprise Business Group, at the opening ceremony of the event.

During the keynote session of the Summit, Mr. Wing Kin Leung, Chief Technology Officer, Solution Sales Department, Huawei Enterprise Business Group indicated that a line-up of new technologies in ICT, such as cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, mobility, and social networking, have brought about robust synergies into power grid innovations. Power companies should leverage the latest ICT technologies and best practices to address the challenges faced by the power industry and improve grid efficiency. Leveraging advanced ICT technologies, Huawei is committed to building reliable smart grids, helping to enhance operational efficiency in power companies around the world.
Huawei has in-depth experience in helping its customers in the power industry leverage advanced ICT technologies to help address business needs. For example, Huawei has successfully applied 4G LTE technology in automated power distribution networks, helping power companies address communications needs of power distribution terminals that have limited optical coverage and improve the success rate of meter recordings. In addition, by implementing a series of technologies, including the automatically switched optical network (ASON) multi-failure tolerance technology, time-division multiplexing (TDM) and IP convergence, as well as ultra-long-distance trunking-free transmission technologies, Huawei has helped power companies improve overall reliability and return on investment (ROI) of ICT systems.
In addition, Huawei has helped power companies apply Internet of Things technologies by firstly launching routing and switching converged solutions that provide effective access of power devices into the Internet of Things by enabling high-speed two-way connections among smart meters, sensors, controllers and other power systems.
During the event, Huawei showcased an array of next-generation ICT solutions customized for the power industry. These included Huawei’s power distribution automation communications solution, power transmission and transformation communications solutions, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution, agile data center solution and collaborative office solution (a reliable power transmission and transformation status detection system), as well as an efficient power consumption data collection system.
