Huawei Showcases Its Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway at Microsoft TechEd Europe 2013

Spain, Madrid, July 3, 2013 - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, rolled out its Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway products and solutions at Microsoft TechEd Europe 2013. Huawei collaborates with Microsoft to deliver Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions to joint customers. The Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway showcased at this conference marks the latest achievement of joint innovation from the two companies. Together they built the high-performance, hardware-based Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway by integrating the Network Virtualization using Generic Routing Encapsulations (NVGRE) gateway functions on Huawei cloud computing-oriented CE12800 series data center switches. Thanks to the Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway, after a network is virtualized, interoperation between the virtual networking environment and the traditional networking environment is implemented, which tackles challenges including multi-tenant applications and virtual machine (VM) migration.

Huawei Enterprise Networking Product Line has established its own SDN strategy, that is, "full programmability and openness, smooth evolution, and service-friendly architecture." Through this strategy, Huawei is always committed to helping enterprise customers build service-friendly, highly efficient, visible, and controllable enterprise ICT infrastructure, allowing the customers to implement "on-demand network" for their ICT infrastructure.

In the field of data center SDN, Huawei teams up with Microsoft to put forth its Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway products and solutions. Seamless integration of Microsoft’s System Center 2012 cloud and datacenter management solution and Huawei CE12800 series data center switches leads to the high-performance Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway. Both efficiency and performance of traditional software-based forwarding modes are rather low. To address this problem, Huawei develops the Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization module on its CE12800 series switches to enable NVGRE packet encapsulation and decapsulation. The Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway implements Windows Server Hyper-V network virtualization in data centers and interoperation between VMs and users on campus networks outside of the data centers. In addition, working with plug-ins provided by Huawei, System Center 2012 can directly manage the CE12800 series, implementing unified network management.

Huawei CE12800 series data center switches are next-generation high-performance cloud switches developed by Huawei for data centers and high-end campuses. The CE12800 series supports super large switching capacity (64 Tbit/s) and is configured with Terabit high-density line cards, featuring the industry-leading Clos switch fabric architecture and industrial-grade reliability. It also uses a strict front-to-rear ventilation channel design, providing comprehensive virtualization capabilities and abundant data center features. Since launching the CE12800 series in May 2012, Huawei has delivered more than 300 CE12800 series switches globally. In Interop Japan 2013, the CE12800 series was awarded the best of Interop in the data center and storage categories owing to its excellent performance. By deploying the CE12800 series switches, enterprise customers can easily build an on-demand SDN network.

Commercial use of Windows Server Hyper-V Network Virtualization Gateway products and solutions will be commenced from Q4 2013, so let's stay tuned for the good news.
