Huawei Showcases Advanced E-Medicine ICT Solutions at the CMEF

Jun 28, 2013

The China Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) is a biannual event that exhibits medical equipment, products, and services for the international medical community. Huawei chose this forum to showcase its new advanced e-medicine solution, which uses an IT infrastructure platform and cloud services to address multiple challenges in the healthcare industry, optimize service provider and client experiences, advance medical treatment efficiency and outcomes, and improve the overall health and well-being of citizens.

Shenzhen, China, April 20, 2013 Huawei, a leading global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions provider, presented its latest advanced e-medicine solution to an enthusiastic crowd at the 69th CMEF held April 20 in Shenzhen, China. Medical manufacturer representatives were especially interested in Huawei’s proposals and actively engaged Huawei's medical industry team members in animated discussions about its solutions for various healthcare issues.

At the exhibition, Huawei presented the Huawei e-hospital solution, which includes hospital management, IT-based healthcare, IT infrastructure (wired/ wireless networks and data center), and many other advanced systems for organizations offering basic to advanced medical services. Depending on customer requirements, the system delivers medical ICT services such as telemedicine, office collaboration, basic IT-based healthcare, and mobile healthcare using the IT infrastructure platform and medical services in the cloud.

To facilitate the development of additional IT-based services for e-medicine, Huawei has taken the lead in developing an integrated Regional Healthcare Information Network (RHIN) system that supports hardware pre-installation and software performance optimization to meet the requirements of both municipal and county-level healthcare organizations. With one-stop delivery, this solution promises quick deployment within days instead of months. The RHIN solution also offers embedded network security and Electronic Healthcare Records (EHR) privacy protection components. The integrated cloud computing technologies support resource sharing and offer the flexibility to easily expand healthcare services in the future.

The Huawei telepresence telemedicine system is a popular feature that provides 1080p immersive video experiences at 2 Mbit/s bandwidth, enabling face-to-face remote video communication. The system also provides open eSDK interfaces to seamlessly integrate with existing telemedicine software systems and uses multiple data streams for the immediate transfer of patient information and medical images. Both local and remote sites can control and view collected images simultaneously.

Information technology is vital to the future of healthcare

Experts agree that the healthcare industry plays a critical role in national economic development and stable social development. At the beginning of the 21th century, the industry faced mounting challenges caused by increasing populations, deteriorating environments, natural disasters, and public health incidents. Recent news about H7N9 bird flu, a disease with serious risks to large populations, triggered additional concerns.

Given these problems, the healthcare industry has recognized the importance of information technology in creating a secure future. As the world's leading ICT solutions provider, Huawei is able to offer expertise in innovative technology solutions that incorporate network infrastructure, cloud computing, data storage, unified collaboration, and intelligent terminals to help find answers to these pressing problems. Huawei’s longstanding experience developing integrated solutions for healthcare customers, including e-hospital, regional e-health, and telemedicine solutions, give Huawei unique insight into the problems of healthcare organizations.

As an essential part of everyday life, the healthcare industry has evolved into a complex and comprehensive service system that requires participation and cooperation from all providers in the industry chain. Huawei has distinct advantages in the ICT industry and can leverage its partnerships with Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Service Integrators (SIs) to provide services that meet customer requirements and promote China's IT-based healthcare development.
