Created in 2005, Golf in Dubai was founded to promote Dubai as one of the world's leading golfing destinations, and to underline Dubai's other international attractions to a worldwide audience. Currently, Golf in Dubai is one of the major organizers of international golf tournaments, promoting and organizing major European Tour events, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, and the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
Deploying Wi-Fi (WLAN) that offered guests full internet connectivity while attending their golf tournaments presented a significant challenge to Golf in Dubai. When planning the launch of the 2014 Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club, Wi-Fi capabilities were limited to specific areas and could only accommodate up to 12 people at a time.
Sanjay Narula, Head of IT, Golf in Dubai, commented: “We are in a day and age where we want to be connected at all times, whether we are in our home country or abroad. We wanted to provide a reliable Wi-Fi service to our local and international guests attending the 2014 Omega Dubai Desert Classic.”
Golf in Dubai's other major requirement was that the WLAN devices installed across the three main areas be invisible from players and guests, to avoid aesthetically compromising the course
In partnership with Visiontech International, a WLAN solution that expanded the wireless connectivity zones across the entire golf course was identified, allowing up to 2,000 users at any one-time, offering service to players, sponsors, and guests that had never been available before
Huawei supplied an extensive range of wireless products in order to develop this WLAN Network, including multiple Access Points, Controller and Access Switches, and Router Switches. A detailed wireless coverage design was carried out to ensure the golf course property, both indoors and outdoors, be covered while all WLAN devices are invisible to guests. The major products are S5700 LAN switches, indoor and outdoor AP (AP5010/AP6010/AP7110/AP6510) and wireless controller AC6005. The outdoor AC's rugged design ensures steady performance in high temperature and humidity during the hot summer season.
As a result of the quick assessment and effective deployment, the solution was implemented and deployed 48 hours prior to the 2014 Omega Dubai Desert Classic, offering full connectivity services to thousands of guests.
A state-of-art WLAN system was set up in three Golf in Dubai courses, providing high-quality wireless broadband service to guests, thus improving the guests’ quality of experience.
Sanjay Narula, Head of IT, Golf in Dubai, commented: “Together both Huawei and Visiontech provided a comprehensive solution to ‘Golf in Dubai’ for the tournament, contributing to making this prestigious event a great experience for our guests and ultimately a success for Dubai.”
