Technology Promotes Classroom Collaboration

As primary education classrooms adopt innovative teaching methods — online learning, interactive learning, and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) learning —, a school’s campus network faces many challenges: low deployment efficiency and slow service provisioning; complex network management and high Operating Expense (OPEX); and limited network application openness.

However, using a centralized cloud platform — CloudCampus —, Huawei addresses such challenges. CloudCampus features plug-and-play capabilities and on-demand expansion, centralized and simplified Operations and Maintenance (O&M), and open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

A cloud-based platform allows network operators to manage network planning, service deployment, optimization, and Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) anywhere, anytime, greatly enhancing overall efficiency. Likewise, it provides operators with multiple visualized and automatic O&M tools, used to improve remote O&M fault diagnosis, enhance network O&M efficiency, and reduce Operating Expense (OPEX) by up to 80%.

The network’s plug-and-play capabilities improve deployment efficiency, reduce on-site configuration, and offer enhanced possibilities at low costs. Unlike traditional service deployment methods, the cloud-based management platform enables remote service deployment, and new services can be deployed without requiring professional network engineers to be on-site. For example, primary school teachers can upload additional content to the cloud network, using a simple mouse click. Then, students and other teachers, regardless of location, can access the cloud and the uploaded content. In effect, the platform ensures that student learning remains at the forefront of a school’s digital transformation.

Meanwhile, cloud-based management covers four types of service APIs: authentication and authorization, network automation, network O&M, and value-added data APIs. These APIs (currently more than 100) meet the needs of the application layer and provide industry-specific, Value-Added Services (VAS) for educators, including student flow analyses, e-schoolbag, student health management, and smart office applications — turning mined big data into useful information.

The technologies used — including WLAN, campus switches, firewalls, application security gateways, and next-generation Access Points (APs) — further extend the network’s capabilities. The APs, in particular, feature three-radio channels, increasing the number of concurrent users by 50%, ideal for high-density scenarios, such as classrooms and dormitories.
