Malaysia’s national infrastructure company chose Huawei as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for a large communications system on Kuala Lumpur’s Ampang Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension. The extension runs under the city’s central business district for approximately 11 miles (18 km) and has 13 train stations and 10 traction power substations. LRT expects to begin operations in 2019.

Unlike new development projects, the line already depended on several existing networks that presented unique system interconnection and service migration challenges. There were several stringent requirements.
A diverse set of subsystems, with internal and several undefined external interfaces, required reliable interconnection.
The project required a smooth migration from the complex existing systems without service interruptions.
A unified Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) system and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) design provided reliable communications and supported SCADA.
Huawei used its extensive industry experience to provide an E2E project management and delivery solution with several key features.
Huawei hosted design liaison conferences to maintain internal and external interfaces and specify interface management. We also did pre-integration and other relevant tests for all sub-systems and made sure all interfaces were available and delivered on time.
To prevent service interruptions, a dedicated team of experts planned and verified a detailed migration solution based on the existing network. Engineers used the migration tools in Huawei’s network management system to efficiently configure and distribute migration data. The planning and tools helped mitigate risks and improve migration efficiency.
Huawei worked closely with leading consultants and the customer to optimize the unified RAMS/EMC design to cover product design, device procurement, and implementation for the communications and SCADA systems. Huawei’s Global Compliance and Testing Center (GCTC) evaluated the EMC pre-design and pre-integration to ensure system reliability.
