Huawei and Industry Partners Jointly Release Smart Road Transport Solution

——AI Drives Road Transport to a New Stage of Intelligence

Shanghai, China

[Shanghai, China, September 18, 2026] During HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, Huawei hosted a Digital and Intelligent Road Session themed "Smart Roads, Seamless Transportation". The company, together with global industry partners, jointly released the Smart Road Transport Solution. This solution combines Huawei's core technologies in connectivity, computing, and AI with key road transport scenarios, traffic management, and traffic engineering. It enables an intelligent sensing-decision-execution loop across highways, urban transportation management, and integrated transportation, driving AI-powered improvements in road transport quality and efficiency worldwide.

Surong Shen, COO of Huawei's Smart Transportation BU, highlighted that the restructuring of global industrial and supply chains has intensified challenges to the safety and efficiency of road freight corridors. He emphasized that digital and intelligent technologies will make road transport safer, faster, greener, and smarter. As AI evolves from office assistance to generative operational systems, large-scale AI deployment faces five key challenges: fragmented data, varied computing demands, reliable networks, cloud-edge-device synergy, and cross-system coordination. To tackle these, Huawei is dedicated to building a digital and intelligent foundation that coordinates sensing, connectivity, and intelligent platforms. The company looks forward to collaborating with customers and partners to enhance the safety, intelligence, and resilience of every road.

Rafael Exposito Sarmiento, COO of SICE Mexico, shared SICE's practices in accelerating road intelligence with Huawei. As a multinational technology integrator, SICE specializes in tolling, payment, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs). It delivers end-to-end solutions like Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF), traditional tolling, and operations backends, integrating AI and computer vision for vehicle detection and classification, automatic transaction auditing, and evidence collection. SICE has achieved seamless integration with Huawei in electronic tolling projects on highways in Mexico and other countries. The two parties will continue to collaborate on the SIDERA platform, combining cloud, connectivity, and sensing capabilities to help global roads go intelligent faster.

Yu Xiaohe, Director of the Science and Information Technology Dept and General Manager of the Intelligent Transportation Technology Innovation Research Institute at Hubei Communications Investment Technology Development, shared their cooperation with Huawei in developing the "Jingchu·Xing" AI model. Built on a "1+5+X" core architecture and powered by the Ascend foundation, the model utilizes 3.18 billion business data records and over 70 petaflops of computing power to develop 83 agents that cover the entire road lifecycle—from construction and management to maintenance, operations, and service. The first batch of seven key agent categories has been deployed across scenarios like road condition–based dispatching, emergency handling, audit and verification, maintenance and inspection, electromechanical O&M, and operations management. The model delivers over 90% accuracy in predicting traffic congestion one hour ahead; more than 95% accuracy in accident detection with alarms triggered in under 8 seconds; and over 93% accuracy in defect identification, boosting efficiency by 30 to 50 times. Designed to be open, replicable, and iterative, the model supports the digital and intelligent transformation across the road industry.

Professor Xuesong Wang from Tongji University gave a speech titled "AI-Based Hazard Identification and Countermeasure Recommendations for High-Risk Roads." To tackle issues like insufficient accident and hazard analysis and a lack of professional countermeasures, their team developed a four-phase governance process: analysis and judgment, improvement plan, deployment, and effect evaluation. In recent years, they have applied AI to create large models for highway accident analysis, risk factor identification, and countermeasure recommendations. In Suzhou's "5510" project, 61 roads were treated, leading to a 72% reduction in fatal accidents. This successful approach has since been expanded throughout Jiangsu Province.
