Dubai Iranian Hospital Future-Oriented Campus Network with Huawei WLAN and 10G LAN Switch Solution

Dubai Iranian Hospital was established in 1970 on land donated by his Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum to the Iranian Red Crescent Society. This makes the Dubai Iranian Hospital the first health care provider in Jumeriah region.

The hospital offers a 128 acute in- patient bed facility, a well- equipped 12 bed emergency & trauma care unit and 10 new VIP units. The hospital also provides sub- specialty care for more than 2000 patients daily. The hospital planned an expansion of new facility supporting 220 new bed and related facility.

Key Challenges

As one of the busiest hospital in Dubai, Dubai Iranian Hospital faced large pressure due to its limited hospital resources. Thus the hospital planned to make an extension for its existing facility, to improve its bed capability from 128 to 348. The hospital extension requires a comprehensive network to support the service for not only medical care services but also voice, CCTV and other IT systems. These services require a future-oriented, broadband and reliable network infrastructure.

The major challenges for the network infrastructure are:

  • High reliability for multi-service support

The campus network is the infrastructure for hospital system, security system and office system. The failure of campus network will affect all these system and compromise the services to patient. So the reliability is a critical matter for the hospital campus network.

  • High bandwidth for future service expansion

The medical care IT system is improving very fast in recent years, which has growing requirement on bandwidth in order to share medical data and provide better service to patients.

  • Unified management the whole campus network

The campus network has different type of equipment including switches, routers, firewalls and wireless LAN. A unified management system will reduce the cost on maintenance.

Solution Highlights

To resolve these challenges for Dubai Iranian Hospital, Huawei offered a high reliable, state-of-art campus network as the network infrastructure for its IT services. The solution includes: S-series core and access switches, firewall, eSight unified network management system and WLAN. The system has the following advantages:

  • High reliability by using iStack in access layer and CSS in core layer

The access switch are using intelligent stacking (iStack) to virtualize multiple devices into one logical device for easy management and operation. Compared with a single device, iStack features higher scalability, reliability, performance, and a better architecture. The S7700 core switches implements the CSS function through switch fabrics, and packets are only switched once when they are forwarded between chassis. Clustering provides the industry’s highest cluster bandwidth of 256 Gbit/s. Inter-chassis link aggregation can be used to improve link use efficiency and prevent single-point failures.

  • 10G uplink support furture service expansion

The access switches are with GE access and 10GE uplink ports, which can meet the growing bandwidth requirement from hospital applications within next 5-10 years.

  • eSight unified management system reducing maintenance cost

eSight is a new-generation network management solution for enterprise users to centrally manage the basic network, unified communications (UC), telepresence meetings, video surveillance devices, and data centers. The system is used to monitor wired, wireless LAN systems, as well as firewalls.
