EC Solution Upgrades Telecommunications Efficiency

2013/4/7 15:59:38

Background

Serving nine states in northeast Brazil, Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB) is the largest institution in Latin America focused on regional development. The bank has 185 branches and offers services ranging from financing big businesses to managing the largest microfinance program in South America.

The bank was eager to concentrate on core business development and improve its brand image with high-quality services and faster customer response.

Challenges

BNB faced high costs for telecommunications, which are expensive in Brazil. Still using traditional Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) technology, the bank wanted to upgrade its private networks and internal communications. With a large number of branches scattered across a huge geographical area, upgrading telecommunications was crucial to improving services.

Solution

BNB selected Huawei’s Enterprise Communications Solution to help implement the bank’s communications upgrade strategy. The Huawei solution includes both unified communications and call center services, as well as unified remote management. The solution connects all branches to headquarters in a way that ensures the operation of local branch communications. If the connection to headquarters fails, each branch can continue to operate independently.

The solution also offers features such as the following:

  • A distributed conference call feature can save up to 30 percent of network bandwidth.
  • Quality of Service (QoS) technology with advanced queue scheduling and congestion control algorithms can perform multilevel, accurate scheduling for data flows, satisfying the QoS demands of different users and services.
  • Video, email, and messaging communications can be integrated for real-time collaboration.

Benefits

BNB’s headquarters and branches can now communicate via instant message and audio/video conference calls, in addition to collaborating via the sharing of desktops, documents, electronic whiteboards, and other multimedia applications. With these types of interactions, BNB was able to reduce its travel and training costs, while improving the efficiency of collaboration. As a result, the company reduced CAPEX and OPEX dramatically as well as reducing response time. Individual work efficiency has increased by an estimated 15 percent.

The solution has also improved communications reliability. The solution’s IP PBX features carrier-class reliability, restorability, and independent operation. If a connection with headquarters is lost, a branch can recover important data immediately.

Four-layer security control and encryption of media streams have improved BNB’s security, while support for devices such as IP phones, PCs, smart phones, and tablets help ensure access anywhere, anytime.

Huawei guarantees on-site service and problem-solving within two hours. With Huawei’s help, BNB has improved internal efficiencies and strengthened its position in the fiercely competitive financial sector.
