Background

The historic city of Zunyi, located in the northern Guizhou Province, wanted to bolster its reputation as a center for culture, peace, and harmony. With increasing developments in the Information Technology (IT) industry, Zunyi’s Public Security Bureau decided to acquire a high-performance, high-expansion, and simple-management public security cloud data center system. Their goal was to build a ‘smart’ data center infrastructure that could meet the requirements for modern information-based policing.

Challenges

Zunyi’s existing traditional data centers give rise to energy waste, with Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) sometimes registering greater than 2.0. Their multiple data centers are separately managed without unified standards, which results in high labor costs. Also, the floor height is insufficient for future capacity expansion. To accomplish IT-based data centers, Zunyi’s Public Security Bureau established the following requirements:
• Fast deployment and simple expansion to match future business expansion
• Effective technologies to lower energy consumption
• Simplified O&M to reduce labor costs

Solution

Huawei ‘Smart’ Data Center

After careful analysis of Zunyi’s requirements, Huawei proposed its Modular Data Center (MDC) infrastructure, characterized by reliability, efficiency, and simplicity. The infrastructure consists of the following:
• Huawei’s reliable T4+ modular Uninterrupted Power Supply (USP)
• Cabinets
• Power distribution
• Air conditioning
• Cabling components 

All components can be centrally controlled, making each micro-module a self-contained unit. The infrastructure features:

• Dehumidifying at low-load rate down to 10 percent for safe operation of IT equipment

• Pre-alarm of circuit breaker terminal with temperature monitoring
• Batteries with auto-shutdown for fire protection
• Power-off rate reduced by 50 percent
